A car without a driver struck two vehicles after its driver left it unattended.
The incident occurred July 22 around noon, in the westbound lanes of East Stuart Drive between Country Club Lane and Woodview Drive, according to Galax Police Capt. James Cox.
A 1997 Plymouth Breeze operated by Ronald G. Witt, 39, of Pulaski, became disabled and the driver parked the car against a guardrail and left on foot.
The Plymouth began to roll backwards, crossing the westbound lanes and median into the eastbound lanes, then crossed the median again back into the westbound lane, striking a 1994 Ford Ranger driven by Virginia Nester of Woodlawn.
The Plymouth then turned and struck a 2009 Nissan Altima driven by Scotty McLean of Galax and came to rest on the hood of the McLean vehicle.
Damage was estimated at $4,000 to the Witt vehicle, $1,200 to the Nester vehicle and $7,000 to the McLean vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Witt was charged with failing to set the parking brake on a vehicle.
