Donors gave soldiers a happier holiday

-A A +A

The kindergarten students of Oakland Elementary School express heartfelt appreciation and thanks to all the individuals, students, churches and businesses that helped our endeavor of Operation Santa Soldier Stockings become an amazing reality.
This project is for the Army unit in North Carolina of which Sgt. Andrew Gobble is a member.
Our students along with your overwhelming support and generosity were able to surpass their goal of 75 stockings, and packed 80 Christmas stockings.
Students included a handwritten letter and picture for each stocking so all men and women will have a little note of home to enjoy.
A special thank you goes to those who worked with us to make sure these gifts became a reality: Janet Galyean, Arwen Cayton, Kathy Bunn, Lori Sexton, Lisa Funk, Heather Montgomery, Roxanne Cox, Heather Shockley, Elaine Higgins, Teresa Combs and Kecia Delp, for delivering the stockings personally to Sgt. Gobble for distribution to the soldiers.
Our students also wish to thank areas businesses who became major supporters: Maurice Vaughan, for announcing our project on your radio show; Hank Testerman from Carter Bank and Trust for providing notepads for all stockings; Wal-Mart for monetary support to purchase our stockings along with a personal donation from Dee Bunn, an associate of Wal-Mart; Shaina Stockton for coming from The Gazette and publishing our story to allow us to get our story out to the community; and Locust Grove Church of Christ and Oakland Methodist Church for members who contributed so much for our children and soldiers — your generosity is a true lesson to our children.
