HILLSVILLE — A report of a 4-year-old child with serious burns has led to charges against against two adults, according to Carroll Sheriff J.B. Gardner.
Deputies received a call from Twin County Regional Hospital on Nov. 6 about the child.
“Medical staff at the hospital feared that the burns did not appear to be accidental, and they appeared to be serious enough, the child was transported to Brenner's Children's hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.” the sheriff said in a news release.
After conducting an investigation and consulting with Commonwealth’s Attorney Nathan Lyons, deputies charge Donnie Edwin Terry, 30, of Hillsville with felony aggravated malicious wounding and child abuse, the sheriff said.
Terry is being held at the New River Regional Valley Jail without bond.
Deputies also charged the child’s mother, Lillian Trevilian, with felony child abuse.
Taken to the regional jail, her bond has been set at $3,000.
