The store sells all kinds of bottled beers from around the world, and even offers the purchase of “growlers” (32 to 64 oz. glass containers customers can have filled with their brew of choice).

Now, more than a year after starting the business, Creek Bottom is having its grand opening on May 24, complete with a sampling of beers made on site after having obtained a brewer's license.

“We have just got our brewer's license about a month ago,” noted Creek Bottom owner John Ayers. “We're actually going to make multiple brews, but we're sticking to three for the grand opening.”

The brews available Saturday will be a pale ale, an IPA and a brown ale. Ayers said they hope to have new beers available every week in the future.

“We're doing small batch, so we have the luxury of creating multiple beers,” he said, noting that Creek Bottom will still offer tastings of commercial beers on weekends.

Ayers also said he wouldn't mind seeing Creek Bottom Brews become something of a local weekend nightspot.

“We're going to play it by ear, but we anticipate having later hours on Friday and Saturday nights, at least until 9:30 or 10. Our hope is to have live music frequently,” said Ayers. “We're going to add food, but that may be a month and a half down the line.”

He added that there may be food trucks on weekends in the meantime.

Ayers also said he's happy with the customers he's seen so far. “We've been really pleased,” he said. “We have a lot of local support. We also get vacationers and people from North Carolina who can't get these brands elsewhere. It's a really good mix.”

Creek Bottom Brews' grand opening starts at noon on Saturday and continues until the beer runs out.

There will be live music featuring two sets from Stevie Barr and the Mastertones from 1-3 p.m., followed by three sets from Blacksburg's Matt Mullins for the rest of the afternoon; food will be provided by Mountain Grillas BBQ.
