INDEPENDENCE — Matthew Steven Jones, 35, who is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of his girlfriend, is scheduled to appear in Grayson County Circuit Court on June 6 for motions hearing in the case.

Jones is charged in connection with the death of Desia Rae George, 33, who was reported missing April 16, 2013. Jones was reportedly the last person to see her before she disappeared.
Area police officers and others conducted numerous searches for George, who lived in Fries, before her body was found May 22 in a ditch on Brush Creek Road in Grayson County.
In October 2013, Jones was charged with George’s murder in Grayson court through a direct indictment. Jones already was in jail in North Carolina. He was charged with murder, after his April 2013 arrest in connection with the robbery of a bank in Ramseur, N.C.
In January, he waived extradition and was returned to Grayson. He is being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
According to court records, Jones is scheduled for a three-day jury trial in Grayson County Circuit Court on Sept. 10, 11 and 12.
