Couple's death investigated

HILLSVILLE ― The Carroll County Sheriff's Office began an investigation after finding an elderly couple dead in their apartment on Dec. 12, but autopsies attributed the deaths to natural causes.

Carroll Sheriff J.B. Gardner said finding two people deceased at the same time was unusual, but the state medical examiner found no signs of trauma or any other evidence of foul play.

When Carroll County deputies responded to a home at Quail Ridge Court last Wednesday to check on the welfare of an individual there, they found both residents of the home deceased.
