Conservatory presents 'The Grinch' this weekend

He’s Here!  He’s mean, he’s green and he doesn’t like the Christmas season one bit.
This year, the Conservatory of Dance & Theatre will perform “The Grinch,” based on Dr. Seuss’s famous book, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” on Saturday at 6 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Rex Theater on East Grayson Street in downtown Galax.
The storyline is the same as the original, but Barbara Johnson, artistic director of the conservatory, wrote the script for this production.
The conservatory is best known for its ballet program and the Galax Youth Ballet. For the past seven years, it has delighted audiences with the holiday favorite, “The Nutcracker.” They also have staged “Sleeping Beauty,” “Coppelia,” “Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Carmina Burana.”
But the conservatory also offers classes in musical theater. Four years ago, the conservatory, in conjunction with the Galax Theater Guild, produced the Broadway musical “Cats.”
This year, the conservatory is once again bringing forth the fun and excitement of musical theater with “The Grinch.” All the students in the conservatory except the very young dancers will perform.
All will be dancing and some will be singing and acting. Guest starring will be Patrick Butler, a veteran of the stage, as The Grinch.

All seats are $8 for this holiday musical. Seating is limited, so it’s recommended to get your tickets early. Tickets can be purchased at the conservatory at 236-2105 and at Chapters Bookstore on East Grayson Street in downtown Galax.
