Company holding 'Pokemon Go'-themed job fair

With tongue firmly in cheek, the Results Company in Galax has set out to “catch” new employees with a Pokemon Go job fair on Sept. 15.

While the job fair is lighthearted in tone, the promise of seeking new employees is quite serious. According to materials put out by the Galax Results call center at The Crossroads Institute, numerous sales and customer service positions are available now.

However, that’s not to say there’s no fun to be had, as part of the fair will center around playing Pokemon Go.

The game, which is played with a smartphone app, randomly generates Pokemon – a combination of “pocket” and “monster;” essentially cute little cartoon critters – for players to catch.

Randy Surratt, site recruiter for Galax, said that the idea came from an earlier attempt at the same thing on one of the company’ sites in Paris, Tex.

“They did a similar one and had some success, so we decided to try it,” said Surratt, who adds that the event will be done in Pokemon-themed colors and offer refreshments. “It’s something very current, very fun that we can participate in. We’re trying to tell people that we work for a very fun company, as well,” he added.

As for how they’re going to get the critters to appear, Surratt said Results is already set:

“Basically, there’s a pokestop in Crossroads here. One of our locations in Florida did work with Niantic [Pokemon Go’s parent company] to get a pokestop added nearby, but we’re lucky in that we already have the stop here.”

Pokestops are places where players can gather virtual items used to help them play the game. They’re also useful for drawing the creatures in by using “lures” that attract them.

“We would like to invite everyone to participate whether they’re looking for a job or not, because they might know someone who is,” said Surratt.

The Results Company’s Pokemon Go Job Fair will be held on Sept. 15 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Results in housed inside the Crossroads Institute at 1117 E. Stuart Drive in Galax. For more information, call (276) 236-1099 or visit expectgreater.com/galax.
