Open house planned for Sept. 30 at new location

By April Wright, Reporter

The Free Clinic of the Twin Counties will host an open house Sept. 30 from 6-8 p.m. at its new location at 140 Larkspur Lane, Suite C, in Galax.

Everyone is encouraged to visit the clinic during this event. The Free Clinic of the Twin County serves the uninsured residents of Carroll, Grayson and Galax who have lived in the service area a minimum of six months and have household income of 125 percent or less of the current federal poverty guidelines.
Applications are now accepted at the clinic on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 1-5 p.m. You must bring proof of income to apply.
Volunteers are always welcome and needed. Volunteer applications will be available at the open house.
The Free Clinic offers free primary medical care, counseling, job coaching and patient education. As soon as funds allow, the clinic will offer a dental clinic and pharmacy onsite.
The Free Clinic of the Twin Counties has seen a huge increase in patients and patient needs, but donations have declined.
Staff hours have been cut in half to accommodate the loss of income. This means the wait time for a patient to be seen will increase.
Now, the first open appointment for a new patient is Oct. 25. Office hours may also have to decrease due to the lack of funding.
The Free Clinic is the lifeblood for many patients in the community. Many patients are glad to share the positive impact the clinic has made in their lives. Many now volunteer at the clinic and are proactive in supporting the work of the clinic and want to see it continue on so that others can also be helped.
