There seems to be a pattern forming here.
With Galax and Chilhowie having played one another in baseball for the past four years, Thursday marked the third time in the series that the winning run scored on a bases-loaded hit batsman.
This time the painful RBI came in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Warriors rallied for a wild 11-10 win over the Maroon Tide in a nondistrict game at Felts Park.
Transportation issues forced the game to be moved from Chilhowie to Galax, with the Maroon Tide playing as the visiting team, having already hosted the Warriors once this season. The Tide (2-3) took a 10-4 lead into the sixth inning before Chilhowie (5-1) roared back, starting with a grand slam by Forrest Haga, cutting the lead to two runs entering the seventh.
Tyler Pierce then tied the game for Chilhowie in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run shot off the leftfield foul pole.
Two walks and an intentional pass in the ninth loaded the bases with two outs for Rhett Sturgill, who quickly fell behind 0-2 before being plunked by a high inside fastball for the walk-off HBP.
Galax jumped on Chilhowie for five first-inning runs, including a two-run Travis Garvey single and a two-RBI double from Alex Larrowe.
Chilhowie cut three runs off the lead in the bottom of the inning but the Tide got them back in the second on RBI hits from Jacob Woodel, Travis Cockerham and Michael Bond.
Bond drilled a two-run homer in the sixth for a 10-4 lead, but Daniel Ashby took the mound for the Warriors in the seventh, allowing just three baserunners and no hits to earn the win.
Six different Maroon Tide batters had two hits apiece, including Bond, who drove in three runs. Haga had five RBIs and Pierce was 3-for-5 with three driven in for Chilhowie.
Carroll Co. 9-7, Grundy 6-1: The Cavaliers built big early leads in both ends of a double header and swept the Golden Wave in a Southwest District twinbill Thursday in Grundy.
Four two-out RBI singles in the second inning lifted Carroll to a 6-2 lead in the first game, including a two-run single by Dillon Bryant, who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Garrett Nelson pitched 4 1/3 innings for the win.
Two first-inning errors and doubles by Jordan Lamb and Morgan Edwards spotted the Cavaliers a 4-0 lead in the nightcap. Lee Underwood allowed hits to three of the first five batters he faced before shutting the Golden Wave down over the last four innings, retiring the final 11 batters he faced.
Brandon Lineberry and Morgan Edwards had two hits each in the second game.
Galax 3, Giles 0: Sonia Solis scored two goals and Marleigh Durham added one as the Maroon Tide (6-1-1) blanked the Spartans in a nondistrict game Friday in Galax.
Galax held the Spartans in check defensively as Abbi Ponce needed just two saves for the shutout.

Elise Harrison scored with about 12 minutes to go for the game-winner.
Giles 1, Galax 1: Codey Williams made 10 saves for the Spartans (5-2-1) while his counterpart Ryan Cantrell had nine for the Maroon Tide as the two teams battled to a nondistrict tie Friday in Galax.
