Oliver C. King, 18, of Mount Airy, N.C., faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop on Nov. 21, according to a police report.
King was pulled over on Jefferson Street for a traffic violation by Officer Drew Burnett.
King reportedly fled the scene as Burnett was returning to his patrol car.
After Burnett lost sight of King, Capt. James Cox, Detective Aaron Criner and Officer Jason Hawks spotted the vehicle traveling recklessly at a high speed down Main Street.
It is believed that King fled the scene in order to dispose of illegal contents inside of his car, Cox said. “He threw some drug paraphernalia outside of the vehicle while he was driving,” said Cox.
King pulled over after Hawks began pursuit.
His charges include felony eluding a police officer, reckless driving, littering, disobeying a stop sign, no seat belt, no registration in possession, no liability or insurance, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
King is being held in the New River Valley Jail.
