Cavs win, Devils fall to Floyd at Harman Classic

FLOYD –– Carroll County built a 15-point lead by halftime and went on to defeat defending Division 3 state champion Christiansburg 59-50 Saturday in the Chance Harman Classic at Floyd County High School.

The Cavaliers (11-0) bolted to a 20-7 lead after one quarter and took a 34-19 lead into halftime.

Ryan Gravley scored 17 points to lead Carroll County, Cody Keith had 12 points and Connor Lundy added 10 points. Christiansburg (2-9) was paced by 19 points from Joey Augustin.

The game was the fourth in an all-day, eight-game event that included a showdown between Huntington (W.Va.) Prep and the No. 1 recruit in the country, Andrew Wiggins, against Wesleyan Christian of High Point, N.C. The 6-foot-7 Wiggins scored 29 points to lead Huntington to the 45-41 win.

Floyd County 80, Grayson County 72: The host Buffaloes rode a tournament record output from Caleb Tanner and took down the Blue Devils in the sixth game of the day.

Tanner, a junior, poured in 43 points, hitting 19-of-22 free throws along the way. Brandon Lemons scored eight points and hauled in 16 rebounds for the Buffaloes (12-2).

Grayson County (7-4) led 40-37 at halftime, but Floyd County dominated the third quarter 25-9 to take control of the game. The Blue Devils got 19 points from both Mikey Rodgers and Max Rodgers, plus another 18 points from Lucas Rudy and 11 from Ty Cannaday.

In other games Saturday, Auburn defeated Craig County 81-32, Narrows downed Eastern Montgomery 45-39, Giles nipped George Wythe 49-48, Radford defeated Blacksburg 54-38 and Herndon shut down Cave Spring 44-29.
