Cavs pull away from Auburn to reach title game

 MAX MEADOWS –– Carroll County was nothing of not consistent Friday, scoring 15 points in each of the first three quarters before cutting loose with 17 in the fourth quarter and rolling past Auburn 62-46 in the First Virginia Bank Classic at Fort Chiswell High School.

The Cavaliers advanced to Monday’s championship game against Radford.

Carroll County took a 45-43 lead into the fourth quarter before holding the Eagles (5-4) to three points in the final eight minutes.

Connor Lundy dropped in 26 points to lead all scorers for the Cavaliers (6-2). Gunnar Beamer and Blake Dalton chipped in nine points apiece.

George Wythe 67, Grayson County 54: The Maroons got hot in the second half and advanced to the fifth-place game in the First Virginia Classic Saturday at Fort Chiswell.

The Blue Devils (0-7) took a 32-25 lead into the second half before George Wythe rallied into a 43-39 lead by the start of the fourth quarter.

The Maroons sealed the win by hitting 16 of 19 free throws in the fourth period.

Grant Anders led all scorers with 26 points for George Wythe, which got 15 points from Monterick Phillips. 

Ty Cannaday scored 22 points for Grayson County.
