GRUNDY –– Carroll County rallied from an eight-point deficit in the final four minutes to overtake Grundy 70-65 in a Southwest District boys’ game Saturday afternoon.

Grundy’s Jordan Ellis sank two foul shots for a 61-53 Golden Wave lead before James Lanning’s 3-pointer sparked a 17-4 Cavalier run to the final horn.

Tyler Reavis’ layup gave Carroll County the lead for good, 64-62, with 1:15 to play. Reavis led all scorers with 25 points, Lucas Marshall scored a career-high 14 and Lanning chipped in 12.

Derek Hess had 25 points to lead Grundy and Joseph Stephens scored 17.

Seth McKinney led three Warriors in double figures as Chilhowie avenged an earlier defeat with a nondistrict win Monday in Chilhowie.

Grayson County (7-4) took a 25-24 halftime lead before being outscored 32-21 in the second half. Andrew Russell and Tuff Williams each scored 11 points for Chilhowie (4-7).

Eric Harvey scored a game-high 18 points for the Blue Devils and Tyler Rutherford tossed in 10.

The Cavaliers remained unbeaten in SWD play by scoring the game’s first 23 points and rolling to the win Saturday in Grundy.

The Golden Wave trailed 19-0 after the first period and 33-11 at halftime.

Kayla Goins led three Cavaliers in double figures with 13 points. Kelsey Goad scored 11 and Kaitlan Viars contributed 10. No player reached double digits for the Golden Wave.
