ABINGDON -- Dillon Caviness rushed for 183 yards and a pair of touchdowns Friday as Carroll County pulled away from Abingdon for a 26-7 win in a Southwest District game at Falcon Field.
After taking over on its own 6-yard line after a punt, Carroll County needed just two plays to take an early lead. Caviness carried once to the 12, then broke up the middle and outran the Falcon secondary for an 88-yard touchdown run. Caleb Widner's 7-yard scoring run tied the game at 7-7 early in the second quarter for Abingdon (2-4 overall, 0-3 district), but the Cavaliers (4-2, 2-0) took the lead for good on their next possession with a 6-yard scoring run by Zack Surratt and a PAT by Mason King. Carroll scored on its first possession of the second half, driving 80 yards before Caviness bulled over from the 1. Quarterback Blake Bowman capped the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 4-yard run. Carroll County attempted just one pass on the night, instead rolling up 360 yards on 36 rushing attempts. Surratt carried eight times for 74 yards and Bowman added 58 yards on three rushes. Widner accounted for 210 yards for the Falcons, rushing for 75 yards and completing 15-of-26 passes for 135 yards with three interceptions. The Cavaliers travel to Marion (5-1, 2-1) Friday.
