HILLSVILLE –– Carroll County rallied from five runs down and edged Grayson County 6-5 in a nondistrict baseball game Thursday at Bill Worrell Field.

Trailing 5-4, the Cavaliers got the tying and go-ahead runs when Jordan Lamb beat out an infield single, Brett Anauo walked and Craig Rosen drove in both runners with a two-out double.

Adam Nester took the mound in the top of the third and allowed just one hit the rest of the way, a single to the game’s last batter. Zack Hill walked with one out for Grayson and was at second when Jake Blizzard singled into left. Adam Crotts came up firing and gunned down Hill on a close play at the plate, ending the game.

Grayson County took a 5-0 lead with three runs in the first and two more in the third. Ethan Hash and Richard Pugh lined RBI singles and Hill brought in a run with a groundout in the first. Pugh added an RBI double and later scored in the second for the Blue Devils.

Carroll County began its comeback in the third with a solo home run by Brett Anauo and a two-run Matt Fink single, set up by two Grayson County errors.

Nester earned the win, striking out three and walking none.

Galax 7, Auburn 6: The Maroon Tide avenged a slaughter-rule loss to the Eagles on opening day, scoring on Jacob Woodel’s single in the bottom of the seventh for a nondistrict win Thursday at Felts Park.

Michael Bond led off the home seventh with a single and Travis Garvey walked before Scott Alouf’s sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Woodel ended the game with a clean single, improving Galax to 8-3 overall. Auburn dropped to 10-3.

The Maroon Tide overcame five errors, thanks partly to four errors by the Eagles. Woodel, Bond and Todd Nichols had two hits each for Galax. Derrick Duncan had three hits, including two doubles, for Auburn.

Scott Alouf picked up the win with a complete game effort, allowing one earned run on six hits, striking out 10 and walking six.
