TAZEWELL –– Carroll County built a big cushion in the second quarter and went on to defeat Tazewell 57-51 in a Southwest District girls' basketball game Friday.
Trailing 12-9 after eight minutes, the Cavaliers (13-5 overall, 11-0 district) outscored the Bulldogs 20-7 in the second period to take a 29-19 halftime lead.
Lindsey Martin and Kayla Goins led Carroll County with 14 points each and Rachel Dalton dropped in 12 points. Tazewell (5-11, 3-5) got a game-high 18 points from Kelsey Sutherland.
