HILLSVILLE — An Aug. 17 ribbon cutting will launch the official opening of the Hale-Wilkinson-Carter Home at 3 p.m., according to foundation officials.
The historic home at 205 N. Main St. has been bustling with activities this spring and summer, according to the Carter Home Foundation's Elizabeth Huff.
Visitors and tourists from far and near have come to see and learn about the home and its history.
Local organization and club meetings, weddings, class reunions and receptions have been held at the Carter Home in the past few months, she said.
The foundation and its program manager also hosted the Virginia State Welcome Center directors and senior church groups.
The downtown celebrations and cruise-ins have brought in monthly financial support through food sales, Huff said. And, an art show has been held during each cruise-in on the home's porch, sponsored by the Hillsville Civic Association.
"The public is invited to attend this ribbon cutting, enjoy refreshments and celebrate this important even in the official opening of the Hale-Wilkinson-Carter Home," Huff said.
