Carroll sweeps SWD quad from Bulldogs

 TAZEWELL –– Carroll County jumped out to an 8-0 lead and stayed perfect in Southwest District girls’ play with a 45-33 win Tuesday over Tazewell.

The Cavaliers (14-4 overall, 6-0 SWD) led by 15 points early in the third quarter before the Bulldogs (7-8, 1-4) closed to within seven in the fourth period.

Crysta Guynn hit three 3-pointetrs and scored 14 points to lead Carroll County. Autumn Hash led Tazewell with 11 points.

Alleghany, N.C. 59, Grayson County 45: Kennedy Gambill knocked down six 3-pointers and scored 27 points and the Trojans claimed a nondistrict win Wednesday in Independence.

Teammate Mica Sprinkle added 18 points for Alleghany, which led 14-7 after one quarter.

Meredith Frost scored 18 points to lead the Blue Devils.

Carroll County 62, Tazewell 50: The Cavaliers took control in the second period and knocked off the Bulldogs in a SWD game Tuesday in Tazewell.

Carroll County (13-2, 6-0) pulled out to a 27-21 lead at halftime and drew away in the second half.

Ryan Gravley scored 20 points, including 6-of-7 free throw shooting in the fourth quarter, to lead Carroll County. Austin Horton added 13 points.

Noah Walker (13 points), Christian Lewis (11) and John Walker (11) paced the Bulldogs.

Grayson County 76, Alleghany, N.C. 65: The Blue Devils rallied from a 35-29 halftime hole and rolled past the Trojans in a nondistrict game Wednesday in Independence.

Max Rodgers and Ty Cannaday lit up Alleghany for 27 and 21 points, respectively, and Landon Frost added 10.

Alleghany was paced by Jeremy Mabe with 21 points.

Devonte McKinney led all scorers with 17 points for Galax, which outscored the Warriors 40-19 after the break. Lawrence Parsons had 16 points, George scored 15 and Austin Pack tallied 13.

Devonte McKinney led four Maroon Tide scorers in double figures with 17 points and Austin Pack scored 16. Deion George and Eddie Hanks chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Isaac Baltazar hit four 3-pointers and led all scorers with 18 points for the Maroons (12-4).
