HILLSVILLE –– Carroll County scored twice in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead and held on to nip Pulaski County 3-2 in a nondistrict softball game Wednesday.
Lillie Kimble doubled to drive in Lexi Hodge in the third for a 1-0 Cavalier lead. An Emily Hiatt walk and singles by Kimble and Jordan Nunn produced the two fifth inning runs.
Kimble picked up the pitching win for the Cavaliers (8-2), striking out seven and giving up seven hits, including a solo homer by Sara Wright. Jordan Chrisley had three of the Cougars’ hits.
Floyd County 3, Carroll County 2 (8 inn.): Amanda Whitlow singled home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, propelling the Buffaloes to a win over the Cavaliers in a nondistrict game Monday in Floyd.
Ragan Halsey doubled home Autumn Hill in the second, and Jordan Nunn scored in the fourth for a 2-1 Cavalier lead, but Floyd (4-1) tied the game on Jenna Pendleton’s solo homer in the bottom half of the inning.
BASEBALL
Pulaski County 6, Carroll County 0: Cody Long had three hits and drove in three runs to lift the Cougars to the nondistrict win Monday at Bill Worrell Field.
Brandon Lineberry had a pair of hits for Carroll County.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Floyd County 3, Galax 0: Sarah Schula scored a pair of goals as the Buffaloes shut out the Maroon Tide in a nondistrict match Monday in Floyd.
