Carroll resident dies after crash in Dublin

The driver pulled into the path of a truck on Route 100

UPDATED 1/24/13:

DUBLIN — An 84-year-old Hillsville woman has died after a Monday crash on Route 100 in Pulaski County, according to the Dublin Police Department.
Police say that Velma Bowman Horton, driving a 2001 Buick, pulled into the path of a 1999 Dodge truck, driven by Charles Lucas of Radford. The accident happened at the intersection of Route 100 and Fourth Street at about 4:15 p.m. Monday.
Horton was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment, where she later died from her injuries, according to a news release from the Dublin police.
Lucas was not injured. No charges were issued.
Horton served as an educator in the Carroll County Public Schools for 40 years until her retirement in 1990. She served as a guidance counselor at Carroll County High School.
