PILOT MOUNTAIN, N.C. — A Carroll County, Va., man was fatally shot on April 7, and a North Carolina man is charged with first-degree murder in his death.
According to the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, Caleb Tyler Styers, 21, of 116 Richards Lane in the Lambsburg community of Carroll, was found lying in the yard of a mobile home park with multiple gunshot wounds when officers arrived.
Styers was later pronounced dead at Northern Hospital of Surry County.
The sheriff’s office said in a press release that officers were dispatched to105 Duluth Lane in Pilot Mountain at 11:05 p.m. on April 7, in reference to a shooting.
Joseph Thomas Roselli, 27, who lived at the mobile home park, surrendered to police at the scene. He is charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond in the Surry County Detention Center. He has a court appearance scheduled for June 26.
Styers was found in Roselli’s yard, according to news reports.
Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson said that Styers, his girlfriend and a some family members went to Roselli’s home on April 7 to pick up the girlfriend’s children. The sheriff said Roselli is the children’s father.
Atkinson said Roselli allegedly shot Styers with a .22 rifle when Styers got out of his vehicle.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is helping the sheriff’s office with its investigation.
