HILLSVILLE — Doing as the Carroll supervisors requested in May, Carroll Industrial Development Authority members decided to seek construction bids on a mechanical system update at the high school.
After a closed session at their Monday meeting, authority member Richard Sowers made a motion to seek bids for the effort to replace the aging heating and air conditioning system at Carroll County High School.
The authority members approved the motion unanimously after a second from Clinton Willie.
“One of the things I might make mention.... is that we do not currently have money in hand for that and so, even if you bid a project, it does not necessarily mean that the project will be awarded,” County Administrator Gary Larrowe stressed after the vote.
“We’re just anticipating we would end up finding the money to actually make that happen.
“If we waited later, then we would be a step behind, so we’re trying to be proactive and get that project done,” Larrowe said.
The supervisors spoke at their meeting in May about adapting existing construction drawings from the phase III school update project to prepare for the heating and cooling work.
They asked the IDA to expedite the action in order to be able to proceed with the work in the summer, between school years, in case the funding did come in.
