Carroll girls jump on Cave Spring early for RRD win

 ROANOKE ––Carroll County obliterated Cave Spring in the first half and stayed perfect in district play on the season, notching a 43-30 River Ridge District win Tuesday night.

The Cavaliers (10-2 overall, 5-0 district) bolted to a 20-3 lead after the first quarter and held the Knights (6-7, 1-3) to seven points in the first half to take a 30-7 lead into the break.

Cave Spring managed 13 points in the first three periods before the Knights’ Courtney Stover connected on five 3-pointers and all of her 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Carroll County got a balanced scoring attack with four players scoring between seven and nine points apiece. Rylee Haynes led  the Cavaliers with nine points.

State Line 50, Albemarle 21: The State Line Rush homeschool team went 2-1 in a three-game set in The Plains, ending with a 29-point win Saturday afternoon.

Rachel Clark led the way with 18 points and Audrey Clark added 16 for the Rush, which turned an 11-point halftime lead into a 39-16 gap by the start of the fourth quarter.

Grayson County 65, Narrows 63: The Blue Devils got a big night out of Max Rodgers and Ty Cannaday while taking advantage of shaky free throw shooting by the Green Wave to notch a Mountain Empire District win Tuesday in Narrows.

Rodgers scored a team-high 26 points and Cannaday tossed in another 21 for Grayson County, which rallied from a 50-45 deficit in the fourth quarter.

Narrows, which got a game-high 28 points from Chandler Burton, missed seven of its eight free throw attempts in the fourth period.

Austin Lively scored 14 points for the Green Wave and Rodney Perdue added 10.

Galax 58, Bland County 45: The Maroon Tide trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half and was tied at 36 in the fourth quarter before pulling away for the MED win Tuesday in Bland.

Steven Peoples scored 10 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter to help Galax take control. Peoples also scored seven points in the second quarter as the Maroon Tide rallied from a 23-12 deficit to within two points before Bland took a 26-21 lead into the half.

Kalub Lambert led the Bears with 11 points.
