HILLSVILLE — The Carroll County Fair will once again feature fun for the whole family, but at a new venue — for the first time, the event will be held at the new fairgrounds at the Southwest Virginia Farmers' Market.
The fair will display farming activities, games, a beauty pageant, music, food, amusements and much more.
The fair schedule includes:
• Wednesday — preview night with no admission charge.
• Thursday — the Miss Carroll County Beauty Pageant on the exhibits stage, 6 p.m.; 4-H Share the Fun on the Turman Log Home Stage, 7 p.m.; a goat show in the livestock arena, 6 p.m.
• Friday — "A Gathering of Tales from Carroll County,” exhibits stage, 6 p.m.; Exit 109 Bluegrass Band; 4-H FFA stockman's contest, noon-5 p.m.
• Saturday — pet show activities, starting at 10 a.m. with a drug dog demonstration at noon, AKC Canine Good Citizens Tests at 1 p.m.; therapy dog demo at 2 p.m; a kids' dog show and at 3 p.m. the adult dog show.
At the Turman stage, 4-10 p.m. the Virginia Beauty Band and Dance Contest. Registration begins at 2 p.m.
A market lamb show will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the livestock arena.
A tractor pull is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a horse pull from 7-11 p.m.
An angel food cake contest sponsored by the Virginia Egg Council will be held in the exhibit space starting at 6:30 p.m.
A motorcycle cruise-in is planned for 2-5 p.m.
• Sunday — Gospel music on the Turman stage, 2 - 6 p.m.; horse show, 1-7 p.m. at the arena; and family fun and games 2-4 p.m.
Nicely's Family Entertainment of Kingsport, Tenn., will provide more than a dozen rides and games for small children and adults.
