ROANOKE –– Carroll County finished with three wins and two losses in the Cave Spring duals wrestling tournament, held last weekend at Cave Spring High School.
The Cavaliers opened the event with a pair of wins, topping Covington 42-30 and William Fleming 48-28, before dropping decisions to Salem (36-33) and Cave Spring (55-12).
The Cavaliers wrapped up the tournament with a 55-22 defeat of Franklin County.
Blake Bowman (130 pounds) and Drew McCraw (275) finished the day with five wins each, including four pins, while Marcus Puckett (103) and Jordan Lamb (135) won four matches each, including forfeits. Lamb took all his wins by pin.
Ulisis Moreno (140), Aaron Willard (160) and Mickey Quesenberry each won three matches.
INDEPENDENCE –– Grayson County built a 13-point lead through the first three quarters and held on to score its first win of the season, a 45-40 defeat of Marion in a nondistrict girls’ game Tuesday.
Devin Osborne poured in 17 points to lead the Blue Devils (1-3) offensively. She had balanced support with seven points and six assists from Alyssa Wingate, six points from Kayla Spurlin and four points and 12 rebounds from Leah Hall.
Brooke Henderson paced the Scarlet Hurricane (1-2) with 13 points.

Auburn 59, Grayson County 24: The Eagles jumped out to a 37-9 halftime lead and dealt the Blue Devils their third straight loss in a nondistrict game Monday night in Riner.
Tabby Whitlock lead the Eagles (3-0) with 15 points and five steals, Kaylie Mitchell scored 14 points and Chelsie Kenley chipped in with 12 points.
Grayson County (0-3) was led by Courtney Halsey with seven points.

SALTVILLE –– Grayson County fell behind by five following a 30-point Northwood explosion in the third quarter before rallying to take a 78-69 win over the Panthers in a nondistrict game Monday.
Behind the hot hand of Jeremiah Thompson, who hit four 3-pointers in the second half, Northwood took a 57-52 lead into the fourth quarter, but Grayson County (2-1) outscored the Panthers 26-12 in the final period for the win.
Tyler Rutherford had 22 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Blue Devils, who got double-doubles from both Preston Bowen and Eric Harvey. Bowen finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds while Harvey had 13 points and 10 boards. Steven Eller also reached double figures for Grayson County, scoring 16.
Thompson led all scorers with 27 points for Northwood, Dalton Combs scored 17 and Ty Frye added 13.
