BASSETT –– Carroll County came up just short again against one of the top girls’ teams in Timesland, falling to Bassett 51-50 in a nondistrict battle Monday night.
The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 3-3 on the season, with the three defeats coming by an average of 3.6 points to teams ranked in the Roanoke Times preseason top five.
Carroll County took a 40-37 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Bengals (5-1) took the lead for good on two Tahira Scales free throws with 11 seconds to play. The Cavaliers had a shot to win fall away at the buzzer.
