Carroll County ends season on two-game slide

DUBLIN –– Hannah Davidson scored on a layup with 10 seconds to play, helping lift Pulaski County to a 50-47 nondistrict win over Carroll County Friday in the regular season finale for both schools.

The Cavaliers (14-8) outscored the Cougars 18-8 in the second period to take a 22-16 halftime lead before Pulaski (11-11) rallied in the second half.

Kayla Goins and Lindsey Martin led Carroll County with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Davidson was 7 of 7 from the foul line and led all scorers with 17 points for the Cougars.

Carroll County will host the Southwest District tournament this week, taking a first-round bye as the regular season champion. The Cavaliers will host either Tazewell or Grundy in Tuesday’s second semifinal, set to tip sometime around 7:30.

Brittany Avancini became the all-time leading scorer in Floyd County girls’ basketball history Thursday night as the Buffaloes rolled past the Cavaliers in a nondistrict game in Floyd.

Avancini finished the night with 18 points, giving her 1,407 for her career.

Floyd County (21-1) jumped out to a 28-12 halftime lead and never looked back. Brittany Bourne added 10 points for the Buffaloes, while Lindsey Martin scored 13 to pace the Cavaliers (14-7).
