HILLSVILLE –– Carroll County didn’t allow an offensive touchdown for the third time in the last four games and the Cavaliers exploded for 25 second-half points, rolling over Marion for a 39-0 homecoming win in a Southwest District game Friday at Tommy Thompson Field.
Carroll County (5-2 overall, 3-0 district) held the Scarlet Hurricane (3-4, 1-3) to 42 yards of total offense, including one yard on 14 first-half plays.
The Cavaliers scored off of the opening kickoff and were never threatened, taking the lead for good on Kody Alley’s 46-yard run on the third snap of the game.
Jacob Mollett snagged a 4-yard scoring toss from Blake Bowman late in the opening period to widen the lead to 14-0 after Matt Combs’ PAT.
Following a scoreless second quarter, Carroll County put the game away with a pair of third-quarter scores. Alley found the end zone from 14 yards away less than two minutes into the second half for a 20-0 lead, and Mollett added a 3-yard touchdown run with 3:43 left in the period. Both PAT kicks were missed, and the Cavaliers took a 26-0 lead into the fourth quarter.
Mollett scored his third touchdown of the night on a 1-yard run in the first minute of the period, and Ryne Ayers capped a big rushing night with a 46-yard run midway through the fourth.
Morgan Edwards, attempting his first extra point of the year, capped the scoring.
Ayers, Alley and Mollett each carried nine times, Ayers for a team-high 119 yards. Alley finished with 106 yards and Mollett contributed 28 and three scores.
