An 11-point outburst by Taylor Bryant in the second quarter helped boost the Maroon Tide (4-3) to a 33-27 halftime lead, but the Cavaliers (3-3) limited Galax to five points on just eight field goal attempts in the third period to surge into the lead.

Carroll began its comeback with Rachel Dalton’s 3-pointer at the 6:35 mark of the third, sparking an 11-3 Cavalier run. Lindsay Martin drove the lane for two and Kallie Scott followed her own miss to tie the game at 36-all with 3:51 left in the period.

Allison White scored from inside for the Tide but Carroll County held Galax scoreless the last 3:30 of the third and took a 41-38 lead when Dalton nailed another trey, then came up with a steal to set up Martin’s breakaway layup.

The Maroon Tide clawed back into the lead early in the fourth on two Bryant buckets and a nice post move by White, but a stickback by Maleah Neely with 3:35 to play, one of her nine second-half rebounds, put the Cavaliers into the lead for good.

Following Haley Reynolds’ basket with 3:12 left, Galax went scoreless until 29 seconds remained. In the meantime, Carroll County went on a game-clinching 9-0 run, going 5-for-7 from the foul line.

Bryant hit two 3-pointers and accounted for nearly half of Galax’s points in a 23-point second quarter as the Maroon Tide led by as many as nine points.

Bryant scored 11 straight points for Galax to put the Tide into a 31-24 lead, and Channing Russell’s two free throws gave Galax its largest lead of the night, 33-24, before the Cavaliers were able to cut the gap to three by halftime.

Dalton led all scorers with 17 points and Martin added 15 for the Cavaliers. Bryant’s 15 paced the Maroon Tide and White tossed in 11 points to go with nine rebounds.
