Cavs take 13-0, 17-1 wins at Grundy

 GRUNDY –– Carroll County ran its season-opening win streak to seven games Thursday with a pair of easy wins over Grundy, sweeping a Southwest District double header 13-0 and 17-1.

The Cavaliers (3-0 district) led the first game 4-0 when they erupted for eight runs with two outs in the fourth inning. A walk and a Lindsey Davidson double set up Lexi Hodge, who singled home both runners. Ragan Halsey singled to drive in two more, scoring on Lillie Kimble’s base hit. Two runs scored on errors before Autumn Fink capped the outburst with an RBI single.

Halsey also had RBI singles in the first and third innings, and Autumn Fink was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

In the circle, Kimble limited the Golden wave to two hits, striking out eight.

The Cavaliers didn’t need the late rally in the nightcap, getting the job done early thanks to a five-run first inning. Halsey slugged a two-run home run and Grace Lindsey added a two-run single.

A two-run error and a Jordan Nunn RBI double tacked on three runs in the second inning, and four more runs crossed in the third.

Kimble added a two-RBI single in the fourth.

Eden Durnil gave up just three hits to pick up the win in the second game, striking out six, and was 2-for-4 with a triple and four runs scored from her leadoff position. Nunn was 3-for-3 with three RBIs while Hodge, Kimble and Bailey Matney added two hits each.

Halsey had a big day all the way around, going 4-for-7 with six RBIs in the two games. The Cavaliers also took advantage of 12 Grundy errors on the day.
