HILLSVILLE — A large network of Carroll County volunteers has already mobilized to help deserving families have a merry Christmas, according to organizers.
As soon as the calendar turned to November, Dennis Ward sent out a letter to Carroll Christmas Fund volunteers, asking them to do their thing again this year.
The letter stood in for an organizational meeting. Ward noted it’s difficult to get people together for a meeting this time of year.
The Carroll Christmas Fund is a non-profit organization that assists hundreds of families in the county with food, toys and more during the holiday season.
Ward’s letter sought help from a cross-section of the community, as it takes many churches, organizations and individuals for the holiday drive to run smoothly.
The letter called on groups like the Grover King Veterans of Foreign Wars 1115, where supplies are taken and boxes assembled; all three fire departments for help delivering the boxes; churches and schools for donations; the Gideons for Bibles to go in the boxes; social services for selecting families to provide the boxes to; and many more.
Important dates include Dec. 20 at 6 p.m., when sorting will take place at the VFW and Dec. 22, when the boxes will be delivered.
