Carroll boys ousted in SWD, Wave downs Blue Devils

RICHLANDS -- Carroll County pulled to within two points late in the third quarter, but Richlands pulled away and notched a 65-52 win in the Southwest District tournament quarterfinals Tuesday at Richlands Middle School. Blake Tatum’s 3-pointer staked the Blue Tornado (15-3) to a 40-31 lead but Carroll County (2-18) answered with a 7-0 run and closed to 40-38. Richlands followed with its own 7-0 run and wasn’t threatened again. Mac Martin led Carroll County with 17 points and Adam Crotts added 13. Tatum’s 12 points were high for Richlands.   GIRLS’ BASKETBALL Narrows 52, Grayson County 28: The Blue Devils were within nine points late in the first half before the Green Wave pulled away in a Mountain Empire District game Tuesday in Narrows. Alyssa Wingate hit a layup and was fouled, completing the three-point play to pull Grayson County (0-16, 0-7) to within 19-11 with less than a minute left in the first half, but Narrows (18-2, 7-1) outscored Grayson 33-17 in the second half to pull away. Wingate and Devin Osborne led the Blue Devils with seven points apiece. Narrows was paced by Cameron Snidow’s 16 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and five assists.
