HILLSVILLE — Carroll County supervisors, after some slight clarification about school financial categories, have approved a total education budget of $37.93 million budget.
Supervisor David Hutchins had the school officials move the $1.6 million shown in the budget’s “other educational programs” to the instruction category, as the county supervisors now approve the school budget categorically.
“I don’t think that’s a category in the code [of Virginia],” he said. “Where does that need to go?”
School Finances Manager Tammy Quesenberry said the bulk of those "other" funds are grants that get used in instruction.
Schools Superintendent Greg Smith noted those included programs like Title I, migrant education and Americorps.
Hutchins combined the "other education programs" fund with instruction, for a total of $26.58 million.
All supervisors voted to approve the schools budget, and similarly approved the food service and textbook funds.
