A vehicle that went out of control at 4825 Buckwoods Road Saturday afternoon caused $30,000 in damage to a home there.

The accident occurred at about 2 p.m. when a 2002 Dodge Durango, driven by Joy Nicole Lawrence, 27, of Galax ran off of the road to the right, according to a police report by Virginia State Police Trooper K.D. Blackburn.

The Dodge first struck a parked vehicle, a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer, causing damage estimated at $600. The Dodge continued on into a wall of the residence there, according to the report. Matthew Nester was listed as the owner of both the Trailblazer and the home.

Blackburn charged Lawrence with reckless driving.

Volunteers from the Hillsville Fire Department also responded to the scene, according to information from Matthew Chappell, a fire department officer. “While the Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department was en route to help they were notified by Carroll County Sheriff Office Deputies to use caution concerning a domestic situation between parties involved,” the HFD officer reported.

“Witnesses stated that another vehicle was following Lawrence at the time of the accident.”

Nobody was home at the time of the incident, according to the firefighters.

The home had damage to the walls and foundation.
