A Cana man died on Monday from critical injuries sustained in a June 14 motorcycle accident on Pipers Gap Road.
Stanley Gray Collins, 75, was traveling on Pipers Gap Road in Galax heading to Mount Airy, N.C., when he reportedly lost control of his motorcycle, according to Surry County, N.C., Emergency Services Director John Shelton.
The motorcycle veered off of the road and struck a utility pole and a mailbox located at 309 Wise Man’s Trail. “He had critical injuries on the scene,” Shelton said.
Emergency services arrived and began treatment, and quickly called a trauma helicopter to airlift Collins to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Collins was listed in critical condition on Friday, and passed away from his injuries on Monday morning, according to Shelton.
Robbie Ellison with North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the scene of the single-vehicle accident, Shelton said.
