According to police, at 6:38 a.m. on July 6, the suspects gained entry to the front door of the U.S. Cellular Store in the Food City Plaza in Galax. No property was taken and the suspects exited the store in less than two minutes.

The suspects then traveled east on East Stuart Drive and attempted to break into the U.S. Cellular (B&H Computers) store in the Cherry Hill Plaza Shopping Center, near Walmart. Entry was not made and the suspects fled, police said.

“The suspects were operating a grey/silver 2000-2003 Nissan Sentra,” police reported. “The vehicle was occupied by four black males, wearing black clothing with hoods. Two suspects exited the vehicle at each location while two remained inside the vehicle.”

Police in Hillsville and Wilkes County, N.C., are also investigating identical incidents that occurred at U.S. Cellular Stores in their jurisdictions the morning of July 6.

Information about the Hillsville break-in was not available at press time on Monday.

This is the second time the B&H location has been hit this year.

On April 3, a Galax police officer responded to a burglar alarm that had been tripped at the U.S. Cellular store and discovered that the business had been broken in to. The owners reported that cell phones valued at more than $10,000 had been taken.

By working with Mount Airy, N.C., police — who were investigating a similar incident — the Galax suspect was linked to similar burglaries in numerous Virginia counties and several locations in North Carolina.

Antwon B. Richardson, 24, and Daniel L. Nelson, both of Greensboro, N.C., are in custody on charges connected with the April 3 incident in Galax, among others.
