The ladies of Blue Ridge Country Club held their annual invitational tournament Aug. 18 with a four-person captain’s choice. A field of 77 golfers played from Blue Ridge, Giles Country Club, Galax Municipal Golf Course, Wytheville Country Club, and the North Carolina clubs of Cedarbrook, Pilot Knob, New River, Olde Beau, Beaver Creek, Mount Airy and Cross Creek. The winning team members were Myra Kirby of Blue Ridge, Linda Sheets of Pilot Knob and Janice Dillon of Galax Municipal, with a 9-under score of 63. The threesome alternated shots to make up for the lack of a fourth player. They were declared winners by matching scorecards with two other teams who also shot 63. Second place went to the team of Carol Lundquist of Blue Ridge, Patricia Glisson of Cedarbrook, Kim McKeel of New River and Linda Hill of Pilot Knob. Third place went to the team of Christine Phipps of Blue Ridge, Maggie McCormick of Cedarbrook and Pat Milgrim of Wytheville. They also alternated shots to make up their fourth partner. Closest to the pin winners were Wanda Spicer of New River (hole No. 4), Diane Hart of Pilot Knob (Nos. 7 and 12) and Maggie McCormick of Cedarbrook (Nos. 15 and 17). Longest drive winners were Gail Crockett of Wytheville (0-19 handicap) and Mary Jane Carico of Blue Ridge (20-40 handicap).
