Registration is now underway for the 16th season of the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour.

The tour’s 2014 schedule includes five golf academies which focus on instruction in all phases of the game, one “Golf by the Rules” clinic in which the player receives on-course guidance to play the game according the rules of golf, and seven tournaments including a season ending two-day tournament.

Tournament sites include  The Greenbrier Resort,  The Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech (Radford), Fincastle on the Mountain (Bluefield), Wytheville Golf Club (Wytheville), Fountain Springs Golf Club (Peterstown, W.Va.), Glenrochie Country Club (Abingdon), and Tazewell County Country Club (Pounding Mill).

All of these sites offer challenging 18-hole layouts and provide excellent settings for the junior golfer to learn game fundamentals and the rules with an opportunity for competition.

Because of the generosity and hospitality of the host clubs and golf courses, the tour continues to grow.  Numerous volunteers from each host site enrich the experience of each event by making the participants feel welcomed and important.

The application fee is $25 and includes a BRJGT cap, bag tag, ball mark repair tool, and a current USGA Rule Book.  Anyone interested in being a part of the tour can find an application form at area golf courses or at brjgt.com.  Questions can be answered by calling (276) 326-2089 or the BRJGT cell at (276) 345-8786.

Throughout the history of the tour, the underlying motto has been “Building character and sportsmanship through the game of golf.” It is the intention of the tour to not only develop golf skills, but also to use the game of golf as a vehicle to acquire character traits such as discipline, integrity, responsibility and determination to create a better citizen in all areas of life.    Competitive golf has a way of meeting this objective more than most other activities because of the obligation of each player to play within the rules and to self-impose penalties as they occur.

The tour is open to boys and girls up to age 18.  Academies and rules clinics begin in early May and continue through early June.  Tournaments are scheduled for June and July.  Join now for this exciting season of junior golf.
