Blue Ridge C.C. ladies hold member-guest event

The Ladies Golf Association at Blue Ridge Country Club hosted its annual member-member, member-guest tournament on July 25, with 32 area golfers participating in the Texas scramble format.

Blue Ridge’s Judy Chambers teamed with Chris Hale of Giles to shoot a 65 and take first place in the championship flight by four strokes over the runner-up team of Jackie Butler (BRCC) and Becky Guynn (Galax).

In third place was the tandem of Bertha Nunley (Blue Ridge) and Cindy Salyer (Floyd) with a 70, followed by Alice Hill (BRCC) and Diana Nunley (Pulaski) at 73.

BRCC’s Wanda Cox and Galax’s Kathy Cox won the first flight with an 80, one stroke ahead of runners-up Margaret Hensley (BRCC) and Betsy Trevillian (Wytheville) and the third-place team of Margaret Cheek (Blue Ridge) and Wanda Blackwell (Floyd).

Lucy Neff and Linda Painter, both of Blue Ridge, won the second flight with a 79. JoAnn Richardson (BRCC) and Nancy Cole were in second place with an 84, trailed by BRCC’s Dot Lord and Barbara Gould at 85.

Judy Chambers won the closest to the pin contest on No. 7, using an 8-iron to ace the 121-yard par-3 hole. Witnessing the shot were playing partners Chris Hale, Emmy Rotenizer and Sara Dickens.

Other closest to the pin winners were Gail Crockett of Wytheville (No. 4), Cindy Salyer of Floyd (No. 12), Trish Herndon of Hillsville (No. 15) and Joan Stauss of Floyd (No. 17).
