The Galax Fire Department responded to a call on Carrollton Pike Road (U.S. 58) east of the city on Saturday, where a fire had spread to two tractors on property owned by Gus Hill.
The call came in at approximately 11:44 p.m., according to firefighter Chris Hennis. The department spent about an hour on scene extinguishing two International road tractors that were fully consumed by the blaze.
The tractor-trailers were parked all in a row, Hennis said.
The department was able to stop the spread of the fire to Hill’s trailers, which were full of coal, Hennis said. The total damage was around $100,000 to cover damage to both vehicles.
No cause was officially determined, but Hennis believed that the fire may have been a result of an electrical problem.
Pipers Gap Rescue Squad and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene, Hennis said.
