INDEPENDENCE — A Galax man was sentenced to 50 years in prison in Grayson County Circuit Court on Oct. 8 for sexual abuse charges.

Patrick Wayne Blair, 22, was convicted on four counts of carnal knowledge, two counts of consensual sodomy and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor at a trial held July 2.

Blair already had been sentenced to serve jail time on a breaking and entering charge, according to prosecutors, and sexually abused two young females before reporting to jail.

After reporting to jail, Blair reportedly wrote the victims letters.

He was sentenced to 10 years each on the carnal knowledge charges, five years each for consensual sodomy and one year in jail on each of the contributing to the delinquency of a minor charges. The contributing charges were to be served concurrent with the other sentences, for a total of 50 years.

Judge Brett Geisler suspended 34 years of the sentence on certain conditions. After being released from prison, he must be on good behavior for 50 years and on supervised probation for 20 years.

Blair was represented in court by Keith Blankenship.
