FRIES — The Town of Fries is scrambling to find additional money after all 16 bids received for construction of a new 10,000-square-foot facility for the volunteer fire department were higher than the allotted amount.
Town Manager Brian Reed said the low bid received was $1.204 million, which is $204,165 more than the $1 million the town was approved to receive through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.
The grant is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and administered through the DHCD.
