BLAND –– Grayson County’s season ended with a 20th straight defeat as Bland County took a 47-27 win in the Mountain Empire District girls’ tournament play-in game Monday.
Leading 11-7 after the first quarter, the Bears (7-14) outscored the Blue Devils 13-3 in the second period and cruised from there.
Katie Tate scored 14 points to pace Bland County, which advances to play Fort Chiswell in tonight’s semifinals at Galax. Kellie Morris scored 13 points for Bland.
Catherine Vaughan led Grayson County with 11 points.

Graham 38, Carroll County 31: The Cavaliers lost their bid for a perfect run through the Southwest District, falling to the G-Girls Thursday in Bluefield.
Carroll County (17-5 overall, 11-1 district), which had already locked up the district championship, was held to seven total points in the middle two quarters.
Maleah Neely led the Cavaliers with 10 points. Mariah Lampert scored 13 for Graham.

Narrows 58, Grayson County 38: The Blue Devils stayed close for a half but the Green Wave took control in the third quarter of an MED game Friday in Independence.
Grayson County trailed by just seven points at the half before Narrows went on an 18-8 run in the third.
Sarah Eller scored 13 points and Erin Barrett added 10 for Grayson County.
Cameron Snidow put up a triple double for the Green Wave, scoring 25 points to go with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The win was the 100th for Narrows coach Wayne Gautier.

Carroll County 89, Graham 71: Mac Martin led the Cavaliers as they solidified their runner-up finish in the Southwest District with an easy win Thursday in Hillsville.
Martin celebrated senior night with 22 points and 10 rebounds, leading five Carroll County players in double figures. Wes Smoot scored 20 for the Cavaliers (14-7, 9-3), Tyler Lineberry had 17, Ryan Gravley added 15 and Connor Lundy scored 10.
Jordan Bryant and Euneke Diaz led Graham with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
