Bassett edges Carroll 33-30 in Region IV girls’ semifinals

RIDGEWAY –– Carroll County held Bassett to nearly 20 points less than its season scoring average but the Cavaliers were unable to break the ice themselves and dropped a 33-30 decision to the Bengals in the Region IV Division 4 semifinals Thursday at Magna Vista High School.

Bassett (18-3) played Salem for the region title. Both teams advance to the Division 4 state tournament.

The Bengals hit just one field goal in the second half and only scored 13 points from the floor for the game, but survived by hitting 20 of their 30 foul shots.

Carroll County (16-10) went the third period without a field goal but put together a 9-1 run to tie the game at 24 in the fourth quarter.

Bassett pulled back out to a 32-27 lead before the Cavaliers made another run. Carroll had a tying 3-point attempt at the end that fell away.

Tahira Scales led Bassett with 10 points, going a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line. Machala Hash led all scorers with 14 points for the Cavaliers, who got half of their point total in the fourth quarter.
