ELK CREEK — Investigators from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department and Virginia State Police are investigating a fire that destroyed a barn on Hines Branch Road in the Summerfield community of Grayson County the morning of Nov. 25.
The fire was reported about 9:30 a.m., and by the time firefighters arrived it was fully involved. Frances McMickle owned the barn.
Firefighters from the Elk Creek, Fries and Independence volunteer fire departments battled the blaze for more than two hours.
According to reports, there was no hay in the barn, but there was a quantity of lumber and other farm items. There was no electricity hooked to the barn.
