Area players gain all-region honors

Seventeen Twin County football players earned all-region honors recently, including one repeat choice as a first-team pick. Zack Surratt of Carroll County was a first-team all-Region IV defensive back for the second straight year, finishing second on the team with 50 unassisted tackles and 28 assists. Surratt also picked off a team-high 5 passes on the year. Carroll County’s Mickey Quesenberry was a second-team pick at guard, helping lead the way for two runningbacks that combined for more than 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns. Grayson County’s Eric Harvey was named a second-team all-Region C wide receiver. Harvey led the Twin Counties with 43 receptions for 642 yards. Second-team defensive players included Carroll County’s Jacob Mollett and Galax’s Devae Goins. Mollett led the team in both solo tackles (53) and sacks (9) and was the Twin County leader in tackles for loss with 18. Goins was second in the Twin Counties with 92 total tackles and led the area with 10.5 sacks. In addition, 12 players were honorable mention picks, including Carroll County’s Dillon Caviness (runningback) and Jordan Lamb (linebacker), Grayson County’s Jason Thompson (tight end), Ryan Cummings (defensive line) and Galax’s Devae Goins (offensive tackle), Deion George (wide receiver and defensive back), Terrance Mazon (quarterback), Jerad Brown (kick returner), Darius Brown (defensive line), Jordan Vaughan (linebacker) and Tyler Newman (linebacker). David Williams of Hidden Valley was the offensive player of the year in Region IV and Seth Williams was named the defensive player of the year. Coaches of the year were Tim Fulton of Cave Spring in Division 3 and Tim Fulton of Christiansburg in Division 4. In Region C, Chris Rodriguez of Fort Chiswell took home the offensive player of the year award, while Josh Oliver of Radford was the defensive player of the year.
