9th District candidate has progressive vision

-A A +A

As we approach the November elections, we must decide which candidate can best represent our 9th District in Congress — Democrat Anthony Flaccavento, or incumbent Rep. Morgan Griffith, a Republican.
Flaccavento has never previously run for political office, a real plus in this day and age.
Unlike Griffith, Anthony has refused to accept any Super PAC funding, most of which originates with large American corporations that utilize the cheapest global labor available, resulting in millions of lost American jobs.
Anthony believes in a balanced approach to deficit reduction. He believes investment in America’s future, such as education and infrastructure, is just as important as debt reduction.
He favors the elimination of tax breaks for Wall Street and American corporations that outsource American jobs, as well as elimination of subsidies for profitable American corporations.
Anthony believes the safety and health of coal miners should come before the increased profits of the coal companies, earning him the endorsement of the United Mine Workers.
Former Rep. Rick Boucher and Anthony previously worked together on many projects that created long-term benefits for the 9th District, especially those relating to our thriving tourism industry.
Flaccavento looks forward to providing the same work ethic as Boucher, who has also endorsed Anthony as our next congressman.
For almost two years our 9th District has lacked effective representation as Rep. Griffith has not supported legislation that would benefit our 9th District.
Griffith is paid a salary of $174,000 a year to do very little and sleeps in his D.C. office to reap the full benefit of his salary. Griffith has proven to be an embarrassment to our district, who has no forward vision for job creation in our district.
Flaccavento has been involved in many community projects that have created many much-needed jobs.
He has that progressive vision for the future of our 9th District. Two more years of Morgan Griffith would be an absolute disaster.
I strongly urge you all, especially you independents, to support Anthony Flaccavento, as our new congressman in next month’s election.
