$20,000 in stolen items recovered

ENNICE, N.C. — A North Carolina couple has been arrested and charged with a series of thefts at Walmart and Magic Mart in Galax and Lowe’s in Carroll County.

According to a Galax Police Department report, the thefts occurred between February and May 29.

Officer Terry Woods and Sgt. Shawny Jones were dispatched to the Galax Walmart after police received a complaint that the couple was suspected of shoplifting merchandise.

During the investigation into Roger and Mary Seagraves of Ennice, N.C., the officers also discovered items they believed had been stolen from Magic Mart and Lowe’s. After contacting the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Galax Police Department and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office traveled to the couple’s home in Alleghany County, N.C., to search for stolen property.

With assistance from Alleghany Chief Deputy Tim Duncan, property valued at close to $20,000 was recovered. There were 189 items identified as having been stolen.

The Seagraves’ 2002 Dodge Dakota truck was seized for transporting stolen property.

Roger Seagraves, 54, and Mary Seagraves, 53, were both charged with multiple counts of grand larceny and transported to the New River Valley Regional Jail pending their appearance in the Galax General District Court.
